At times while working with TreeKeeper out in the field, you may have a non-mobile device using an available Wi-Fi signal (via mobile hotspot or otherwise) for your Internet connection. We strongly discourage relying on Wi-Fi for your Internet connection while in the field as this can cause inconsistencies with the locational data being used to track your current location. This is due to a number of reasons including different devices relying on different technologies/services such as using an estimated location based on your IP address (which could be anywhere from a few to hundreds of miles away from your actual location).

As such For using TreeKeeper out in the field, we recommend that when choosing a device to be used for TreeKeeper fieldwork it be a mobile device having with Cellular Internet connectivity (via a carrier having the best coverage in your area). Keep in mind that location accuracy, no matter what device is capturing the gps GPS signal, requires a pretty clear view of the southern sky for best pefromance. While using a mobile device connected to the Internet via cellular connection, it is recommended to leave Wi-Fi turned on which will accentuate location identification accuracy.
