Here is some common terminology used with the TreeKeeper system.

Layers

How different data is displayed in TreeKeeper. There are a few key types.

Aerial

As a base layer, we can configure an .SID aerial imagery file for use in TreeKeeper. If you do not have aerial imagery, there are a couple of preloaded satellite base layers.

Basemap / Shapefile

These are external files hosted in Davey mapping servers that display visually different items of data such as city limits, park boundaries, bodies of water, streets, and parcels.

Base Layer

The map displayed underneath all of your data. This can be a custom configured aerial or one of the default maps that comes with TreeKeeper.

Data Layer / Facility

The different icons that contain data on each site on the map managed by the TreeKeeper system. Traditionally, these are broken down into Street Trees, Private Trees, or Park Trees, but can be any type of asset you’d like to manage and track.

External

These layers are special in that Davey is not the host of the data but rather consumes a hosted service in order to represent that information in TreeKeeper.

WFS

WFS, or Web Feature Service is a hosted layer, either by the client or Davey, that allows the other party to integrate into their software, but it managed by the host software.

WMS

Other Commonly Used Words

Archive

A way to record what information was present in a site before it was changed. This allows for a record of change throughout a sites' life.

Attribute

Specific information about each individual site. This often includes species, condition, etc.

Dashboard

A section in the sidebar that displays custom reports.

Data Grid / Grid

A more detailed view of your data that can be accessed by clicking either green button in the bottom right of TreeKeeper.

Filter / Quick Filter

A preset filter that allows you to view specific data more quickly.

Field

When searching for or entering in data, any box that you can enter data into is called a field.

Menu / Sidebar

The icons on the far left of TreeKeeper that give you options on how to view and manipulate your data.

Project

A group of scheduled work to be completed over a specific timeline.

Remote ID

Report

A way to view and compare specific data, such as number of empty sites or different species of tree based on location. This is located in the report builder section.

Site ID

The unique number assigned to each different site so they can be differentiated from each other.

Style (Geoserver)

This is what controls what each type of data in TreeKeeper looks like. Styles are stored on Geoserver.
