Map Tools

There are a variety of Map Tools available in the sidebar to help you navigate the map, manage your selected data, measure distance or area, and more.

Pointer

The Pointer tool is active by default. It’s the tool used to identify individual sites and pan around the map.

Select/Deselect

If you want to select or deselect multiple sites at once, you can use the Select or Deselect tools to draw a rectangle on the map and quickly add or remove sites from your selected set.

These tools will remain active until you select a different map tool. Selected sites will be displayed as selected on the map and the Data Grid will be populated with the selected sites' information.

Polygon Select/Deselect

If you want to select or deselect sites using a more precise or complex layout than a rectangle, you can use the Polygon Select or Polygon Deselect tools. Click to add vertices to the polygon and close the polygon to finalize your selection/deselection.

Similar to the rectangle Select tool, selected sites will be displayed as selected on the map and the Data Grid will be populated with the selected sites' information.

Clear Map Selection

After a selection is made, instead of using a Deselect tool you can use the Clear Selection tool. This deselects all currently selected sites and clears out the Data Grid.

Zoom In (Box Select)

The zoom box is another method for zooming into an area on the map. Drawing a rectangle with this tool will zoom the map to that area.

This tool will reset the zoom of the map view, bringing it back to the initial zoom extent that TreeKeeper loads at initially.

Measure Length

Can be used to measure distances in TreeKeeper. You can draw a line on the map with this tool by single-clicking to add points and double-clicking to complete the line.

After completing the line, a pop-up will appear telling you the distance and that the measurement has been copied to your clipboard.

Add Point/Line/Polygon

The Add Point/Line/Polygon tools allow you to add data to your inventory. All three of the tools function in a similar manner where you place a point or draw a line or polygon, and double click to finalize it.

Different layer types will have different “Add” tools available, which are as follows:

  • Add Point: Adds a single point for data such as trees, benches, etc.

  • Add Line: Adds a line feature for data such as water lines, trails, etc.

  • Add Polygon: Adds a polygon feature for data such as districts, gardens, etc.

Each of these will only work for data layers, not reference layers. For more information on the difference please see: Terminology
