Species Information Management

In the Species Information Management tool available in the Admin Center, we can add, edit, or remove species values from TreeKeeper’s species list.

To add a new species, click the “+” icon located at the end of the species list

When adding a new value, we’ll be asked to fill out some fields.

Botanical / Common Names

Here we’ll add the species identifying name information. The values do not need to represent a tree but can also be a shrub or even a nonliving object such as a vacant planting site or park bench. Either way these are all required fields. See the image to the right for an example of adding a red maple to your list.

Tree type

This will designate what type of value you’re adding. You’ll choose from the following list (Tree, Palm, Shrub, Other, Stump, Vacant, Obsolete). While most of these values are self-explanatory, “Other” would represent a non-tree value such as if you added “Park Bench”, while “Obsolete” should be chosen for retired vacant sites in which you’d like to retain historical information, but do not want to plant a tree in the future.

iTree Eco Species:

This is requred, as the iTree Eco species you choose from the list will be used in your iTree Eco Benefit calculations (will soon replace the iTree Streets calculations currently available.

Show Gold Medal?

This option will allow the species to be seen in the Gold Medal layer.

ISA Guide Plant Appraisal 10th Edition Values

These are optional fields and would be used for estimated tree valuations. More information on these fields can be found in our documentation for running actual valuations here.
